From Country
FROM MUJAAY GANMA FOUNDATION
Learning from Weather Events …
Conversations at Mujaay Ganma in the last couple of weeks have, not surprisingly, involved the changing weather and what is it that we are not listening to?!
It isn’t the flooding that is different. It is the damage that the floods are causing these days. In the past floods were valued for flushing out the river system. Today, with banks eroded and the fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides being used on properties, the river carries more than just fresh water.
There are native trees and grasses, endemic to Gumbaynggirr that can help hold the banks and this could be a start.
As with many yarns that we have, one thing leads to another and we began talking about money and how we need it in today’s world. This led us on to the different value placed on money.
Then, as always, we look to cultural lore, stories, ways of being and of course values held within Gumbaynggirr culture. If we value acquiring money more than we value our relationship with Country and each other, then in time our livelihood and our people will suffer the consequences.
Can we choose to see the beauty of the Earth herself and all her intricate systems, of which we are a small part, before the consequences of our values, our decisions, become more than money can fix?
For International Women’s Day we celebrate the strength, resilience, and brilliance of women around the world. From breaking barriers to leading change, women continue to inspire and shape a better future for all. March 25th was a day for gathering, celebration and
honouring of the wonderful women in our Nambucca Valley. The day was a celebration of the achievements of women in every field, amplification of their voices, and commitment to building a world where equality is the norm, not the exception.
International Women’s Day was filled with beautiful music, dancing, and a large spread of delicious food!
A big shout out to Jaanymili Bawrrungga for hosting such a wonderful event within our community.
