Polio Survivors and Their Health Conditions
This professional workshop examines the post-polio health conditions of Late Effects of Polio and Post-Polio Syndrome, and the profiles and challenges of polio survivors living in Australia.
We aim to increase the ability of clinicians across many disciplines to knowledgeably address the care needs of tens of thousands of Australians who variably experience Late Effects of Polio (LEoP). While not every clinician will work frequently with polio survivors, we know that having clinical understanding of post-polio conditions and their interventional risks benefit the treatment of other cohorts who age with disability.
Content is centred around the long term effects of a viral infection – a pertinent topic considering the emerging attention to later effects of COVID-19 infection. Patient management activities and an interaction with a local polio survivor constitute the practical aspects of the workshop.
WORKSHOP SUITABLE FOR:
Allied and other health practitioners such as: GPs, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, orthotists, exercise physiologists, nurses, podiatrists, speech pathologists, social workers, case managers, and others. See more about the post-polio interdisciplinary care team on our website:

The Valley Hub acknowledges Gumbaynggirr country, the Ancestors, Elders and Traditional Custodians of the Valley in which we live and work. We thank them for their care of country through time and acknowledge and respect their continuing connection to land, waters and culture.
