R U OK? National day of action

National day of action… 4 in 10 Australians feel asking that RUOK? in a conversation is for an expert – but you don’t need to be an expert to ask RUOK? Simply listen and showing that you are can make a big difference.

R U OK? National day of action

Below are 4 steps on how you can have the RUOK? Conversation

  1. ASK – Pick the right moment to ask RUOK? In a way that feels right for you.- Point out things you’ve noticed but don’t criticise.
  2. LISTEN – Have an open mind without judgment.- Don’t rush or interrupt.- Encourage them to explain.
  3. ENCOURAGE – Ask what they have done in the past that has helped.- Encourage them to access support or do something that might help to lighten their load.
  4. CHECK IN – stay in touch after the initial conversation.- Ask how they are feeling and keep encouraging them to take action.

These conversation tips can help anyone who want to support their friends family & colleagues.
